I enjoy getting 6 inches of snow and then going for a snowshoe run the next morning making new tracks. I also love finishing a run and cuddling under the blanket watching a movie. I started snowshoeing about six years ago when I lived out in Colorado. My first race (and first time ever in snowshoes) was the North America Snowshoe Championships in Beaver Creek. I hated it! I fell over 20 times and was soaked by the finish line. It took me a while to strap the snowshoes on again b/c I was racing on the track quite a bit at the time. Once I did, I ran with Scott (my husband) and a few of the guys in town up at the Crags in Colorado. It was a blast, and I've loved it ever since.
It didn't take long to jump into competition, as Scott and Jeremy (Wright) were going up to races in Beaver Creek, so I just started tagging along. I've been competitive for as long as I can remember. I started gymnastics when I was 2 years old and then joined the local swim team when I was 5 years. I have an older brother that was better than me, so he always pushed me when it comes to competing. We grew up in sports, so it just seemed natural to compete and do the best we could!
I have always loved the outdoors, but I haven't ever really enjoyed the snow and the seasonal changes until the last five years or so. I'd have to say the biggest change came when I started running in the mountains. At first it was honestly a challenge b/c I was so used to the track and roads, but once I got out there with the silence and amazing scenes the roads came in a far second. Being active is my life now... in every aspect. We own a running store in Iowa now, and love to see others become active, enjoy the outdoors like we do, and enjoy the snow! Some people dread when it snows and can't wait for it to melt. We say embrace it! Play in the snow and you'll look forward to the big storms.
Traveled and traveling to Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa (not much of a travel), Colorado (maybe), and Oregon for Nationals. I would like to be top 5 at Nationals this year!
